How to Start Your Own Tattoo Business

When starting any business, it's important to gain any required training and/or education. When starting a tattoo business in particular, there may be certain training, certification and other requirements that must be met prior to opening a studio. Because of the nature of business, you will need to know how to properly sterilize the equipment and educate customers on how to care for their new tattoo in order to prevent infection. The best way to learn about local license and/or industry requirements is to call the local business office and explain the type of business that you would like to open.

Once your training and any necessary licensing are both successfully completed, it will be time to apply for a business license. This piece of paper is very important and must be displayed in your tattoo studio each and every day. The best way to do this is to place your business certificate in a frame and display it on the wall.

Now that you have a business license and any other special licenses required by your local business department, it's time to choose a location for your studio. Ideally, any place of business would be located in a high-traffic commercial area. The more people that pass by your business, the better likelihood that they will stop in. In addition, when you advertise your business or try and explain to someone where it is located, you don't want to have a lot of difficult directions. Instead, a simple 'in town' or 'on main street' would be ideal.

When it comes to advertising your new tattoo business, start small and work your way up. Because your business is new, you are probably working with a limited budget. Don't worry, most new businesses are. That's why there are alternate forms of advertising that can help you to get the word out about your new venture without spending a fortune. First and foremost, purchase a large sign to display outside of your business. Make sure that your business name, grand opening date and any special price offerings are noted for every passerby to see. In addition, decorate any windows in your store with samples of your work recreated as clear window adhesives.

Rather than starting out with a large print advertising budget, try writing a press release and distributing it to local newspapers, magazines and/or radio stations. Place flyers throughout town as permitted and on the bulletin boards of local stores. If you can afford it, offer a tattoo giveaway and special grand opening prices during your first week of operation. You may also want to consider contacting local radio stations with your plan to host a tattoo giveaway. This approach requires that you allow the radio station to award the winner on air, which will result in even more publicity for your new business when the DJ mentions the contest sponsor.

As a final thought to starting your own tattoo business, make sure that you explain the importance of proper tattoo care to your customers. Creating a reference sheet will help to keep your customers informed and will remind them of how often to change the bandage and how to avoid infections.

Setting Up a Daycare Business - Start-Up Costs

The costs associated with setting up a daycare business can range from only a few thousand dollars up to hundreds of thousands of dollars. Let's have a look at some of the startup costs that you will most likely come up against if you open your own child care center.

1) Location - The main concern when it comes to startup expenses is whether you start a home-based daycare or rent commercial premises. It is possible to run an extremely efficient business by using your home although you will be sacrificing large parts of your family's living space. There is however refurbishment costs associated with turning part of your home into a daycare environment that is suitable for children.

2) Licensing, Safety and Compliance Costs - Fire safety equipment such as extinguishers and alarms must be installed, first aid kits must be purchased and the daycare area must be fenced to keep children within a safe play zone. Business licenses and permits will also add on to initial costs.

3) Equipment - To make your daycare marketable you have to turn it into a child friendly environment. Suitable furniture and decorations are needed to create visually stimulating surroundings and you will also need play structures, toys, books, posters and art and craft supplies. Remember to always go with quality as children typically wear things out faster than adults.

4) Administrative area - You will have set up a small area that can be used as an office. Costs here may include stationery, phone line connection and Internet connection.

5) Operating Costs - Some business plans also include operating costs for the first two or three months of business when they calculate startup costs. This is sensible as it may be several months before the business has revenue coming in.

6) Business Launch - Expenses associated with promoting the daycare will include branding (logo design), advertising costs (campaigns should start months before opening day) and expenses associated with throwing an opening party.

It is important to show some restraint as you set up the business and prevent startup costs from getting completely out of control. But at the same time you need to have spent enough by opening day that you are looking fully organized and professional with a set up that attracts families to your services. Carefully budgeting for your daycare business startup costs will go a long way to determining your level of success in the first few months of your businesses life.

Temporary Staffing Agency - How to Start

The temporary staffing industry continues to expand, with yearly double-digit growth being commonplace. Companies find it convenient and cost-effective to work with a temporary staffing agency to fulfill unforeseen demand, fill short-term vacancies, and assist with changing workloads due to restructuring or mergers. Additionally, employers are enticed by the idea of "test driving" new employees to minimize risk and ensure a good match for permanent positions.

Many a job seeker has reaped great rewards from temporary staffing. Skilled but yet-inexperienced workers are able to get a foot in the door at prestigious companies, where a weak resume would have made it very difficult to be considered. Similarly, "drifters" (those who tend to rapidly drift from job to job) may be plagued by an overly-long resume. Temporary staffing services can be ideal for drifters, as they have the opportunity to work on short-term projects and move on without the negative repercussions. Retirees and college students are also very common candidates. A retired nurse may find enjoyment and extra income from a temporary medical staffing firm. A computer science major can gain valuable experience working with a technical agency.

Only a small number of personnel is required to handle recruiting and clientele. Even the largest international firms tend to function with small, mostly-independent branch offices serving specific regions. This modular structure means it is quite possible for a one-office temporary staffing agency to compete effectively with established firms.

Overall, the triple-benefit to clients, associates, and entrepreneurs has contributed to the phenomenal growth of the temporary staffing industry. Because of these advantages, it will remain an integral part of the employment process through good times and bad.

Start Up Costs and Financing Sources:

$5,000 to $25,000

The startup and operating costs of a temporary staffing agency are much lower than many other businesses. The basic requirements are a small office with the typical supplies, a computer system with general accounting software and database software for organizing contracts, and the people skills to work with clientele and associates. It would not be impossible to start a temporary staffing agency on a shoestring budget of a few thousand dollars.

The largest business expense is payroll. It is common for associates to be paid by the agency before the agency is paid by the client. An account must be maintained with sufficient funds to cover payroll costs until bills are paid by the clients.

It is difficult - but not impossible - to get help from venture capitalists in covering part of the costs of setting up a temporary staffing agency. A well-researched, forward-looking business plan is essential.

Pricing Guidelines for Service:

Associates are paid by the hour, and the agency covers its costs by charging a premium to the amount billed to the client. The exact amount of the premium differs from case to case and can vary from 5% to 50% or more. Some associates are willing to work for less and some clients are willing to pay more, which when properly matched can result in very decent profits for the temporary staffing agency. The contract usually spells out a flat fee to be paid to the agency in the event that a client decides to permanently hire an associate.

Advertising and Marketing:

A competitive hurdle for small startups is that larger agencies already have established reputations and brand recognition. This is actually a minor obstacle because of the localized nature of the business. It is not necessary to wage a national marketing war to gain exposure for a new agency. An inexpensive and well-directed marketing campaign can quickly build a valuable reputation within the local operating region of the startup.

Essential Equipment:

An office (perhaps a home office) should be equipped with the standard office supplies and at least two telephone lines.

At least one computer system with accounting software and a database for keeping track of projects is mandatory. A printer is used for printing invoices and job listings, and a high-speed Internet connection connects the agency with online job search sites.

Many temporary staffing services have computers with tutorial software available to help associates to train their keyboarding and basic office software skills. These computers are also used to test the skills of applicants.

Income Potential:

Many billions of dollars are spent on temporary staffing services each year. A small, single-office agency can earn profits in the tens of thousands of dollars. The large, international firms rake in millions every year.

Target Market:

A temporary staffing agency is the middleman between two distinct markets: clients and associates.

It is usually not a difficult matter to reach hundreds of applicants with simple help wanted advertisements. More focus will probably be placed on connecting with client companies and convincing them that your services will help their businesses.

Certain industries seem more receptive to temporary staffing. Financial institutions and other office-centric companies are constantly seeking qualified office support staff. Factories frequently need labor for light industrial work, product assembly, and shipping and receiving tasks. Hospitals and clinics use temporary medical staffing to hire transcriptionists, certified nursing professionals, and other support staff. Increasingly, high-technology companies hire computer programmers, database specialists, and systems engineers on a temporary basis through agencies specializing in technical placements.

Tips for Success:

Develop a niche!

In larger markets, providers of temporary staffing services have found it useful to branch into niches such as temporary medical staffing, legal, financial, or technical fields. The focused nature of these agencies allows recruiters to build a pool of highly-educated, trained, and experienced associates who are able to provide the best service to clients within a particular industry.

A hospital executive would feel more comfortable contracting nurses from an agency dedicated to temporary medical staffing than from a one-stop-shop that also places welders, janitors, and filing clerks. This confidence also helps associates to command better wages than they might otherwise receive through a general-service temporary staffing agency.

Automate!

Much of the work of running a temporary staffing agency can be automated by computer software. Well-designed database software can ease the process of matching qualified associates with appropriate job openings. Accounting operations can be very heavily automated (but working closely with a good accountant is still advised). With these tools in place, just two major tasks remain: finding clients and finding associates.

Use your own services!

As the business grows, it will become necessary to add staff to handle the recruitment and marketing. That should never be difficult, since typically dozens or hundreds of qualified candidates are already in contact with the agency!

Training, Skills or Experience Needed:

Recruiters are at an advantage with a background in human resources, business management, and marketing. A degree is not essential for starting the business, but the knowledge gained through a business management program is immensely helpful. People skills are important, and can be learned through experience and self study. Numerous books have been published, specifically addressing temporary staffing as a business opportunity.

Adult Halloween Games To Liven Up Your Halloween Party

Halloween isn't just for kids anymore. Plenty of adults celebrate the day as well. Halloween parties are a common event for many adults these days. If you're planning a party of your own, here are some fun adult Halloween games to liven it up.

Photo Scavenger Hunt

The object of a photo scavenger hunt is to get pictures of all the items using a digital camera or a Polaroid camera so the pictures can be judged right away.

Break your guests up into several small groups and give each of them a list of items they have to find. They can all get the same items or you can make each one different if you don't want them tripping over one another in their search.

They head out on foot or by car to find the items and take pictures of themselves with each one. I like to make them find someone to take their picture if possible - if the whole group isn't in each one, they get penalized.

You can choose the winner by the first team to finish, the team with the most creative pictures or whatever criteria you want.

Make the scavenger hunt items fit the theme of your party. You could use a tombstone, a hockey mask, red paint or a horror movie poster for example.

Pumpkin Bowling

This one is fun for any age, really, but adults can have a lot of fun with it.

Partially fill ten 2 liter pop bottles with water to weight them down, then decorate them to fit the theme of your party.

Set them up in the standard 10 pin layout.

Have your guests "bowl" with pumpkins. The smaller gourds usually work best, or at least smaller pumpkins. Round ones tend to roll better but the ones that aren't as perfect make the game a lot more challenging.

Pumpkin Carving

A lot of people have switched to painting pumpkins rather than carving, both for safety and for longer lasting jack-o-lanterns. But carving is still the best in my opinion. There's nothing that says Halloween like the light of a candle flickering through the face of a pumpkin.

You can buy carving kits at most craft and hobby stores around Halloween, with small tools for more detailed carving.

They usually come with stencils as well but for this game you'll probably want to leave it up to your guests to do freestyle.

You can judge the game in several ways - the first to finish their pumpkin, the most creative (in your judgement or the entire group's), the scariest, etc.

And there are plenty of children's games that are just as much fun for adults - bobbing for apples, Twister, musical chairs, etc. Don't worry about whether it's a "mature" thing to do - just worry about whether your guests enjoy themselves!

Tempeh Versus Tofu - Which Wins the Health Competition?

How Is Tempeh Different from Tofu, and Which Is Healthier?

Once close relatives derived from the soybean plant, Tempeh and Tofu were separated at adolescence, raised and formed for purpose in two different living environments. Yet now, they come together for one epic battle for vegetarian supremacy! Not knowing of their past, their disdain for one another is based on a misunderstanding of how similar and beautiful each is to one the other -- how... complementary... they are of one another. So we may all help to teach others and teach these native sons of soy how to better tolerate one another, we must first understand how Tempeh and Tofu came to be.

OK. Enough of that. Let's get right down to it: a primer on the soybean.

What is Tempeh? Tempeh Defined

Tempeh is to the soybean as spam is to ham, except far less disgusting and much better for you. Tempeh is made through a relatively simple process: the soybean is first made tender through soaking and then it's de-hulled. The beans are partially cooked, and then pressed into a layered cake or patty form. There are other forms of tempeh that can be derived from whole wheat or a mixture of soy and grains, yet the most commonly found variation is soy tempeh.

The protein in tempeh is far more digestible than what you would ingest through animal proteins, due to tempeh's fermentation process. As a result, combining tempeh with other meats or simply using it as a substitute has been known to greatly aid in overall digestive health. Different from tofu, tempeh is a whole soybean product that offers higher amounts of protein and dietary fiber, as well as vitamin content, all due to the fermentation process preserving the whole bean.

What is Tofu? Tofu Defined

Like tempeh, tofu is derived from the soybean, yet after the bean has been processed to the soy milk product. In it's simplest form, tofu is to the soybean as cottage cheese is to dairy milk. It is the curd of soy milk pressed into chunks, slabs or bricks. Of course there are varieties of tofu, ranging from what is known as silken or soft tofu, often used in desserts, to the more common western or dried tofu that is so versatile in cooking everything from traditional Asian cuisine to filling for soups. Full of iron and calcium, as well as being cholesterol free, you can see how it serves as a great addition to any diet, especially the diet of a pregnant or aging individual.

With regards to nutritional value, tofu does one-up tempeh as it offers more protein per carbohydrate, while offering a little more versatility in terms of the dishes and foods with which it can be combined. It is easily marinated and seasoned, can be made with egg, cinnamon, fruits and nuts -- offering a fairly wide variety of flavors. It can also be found in fermented varieties, such as pickled tofu, though this isn't necessarily for everyone. Therefore, in our quest to determine which soy reigns supreme, we're slightly stumped as they both offer great edible options.

A Few of the Best Tempeh Recipes

No. I'm not going to drop a list of ingredients that you must run out to the store and purchase, because tempeh is best used in substitutions of your other favorite or former recipes. For example, the Super Bowl is right around the corner, and regardless of how you feel about football, you'll probably be at a party. How about a little vegetarian chili, prepped with tempeh, organic powders, seasoning and vegetables, served with a tasty St. Peters English Ale -- an organic favorite.

For breakfast, depending on your desire, tempeh is the perfect substitute for bacon or sausage, and is darn tasty on a bagel with egg and cheese, or egg substitute if you prefer. Tempeh is also great after it has been marinated, to create sandwich meat, or flavor for salads. And when it comes right down to it, skillet frying it with a little sea-salt and a peppercorn variety makes it a great snack in and of itself.

A Few of the Best Tofu Recipes

Do you remember the first time you dipped into Miso soup or Pad Thai, and thought, "What is this stuff?" It is so versatile, you can quite literally toss it into any of your favorite recipes. Depending on the type of tofu that is made or purchased, you can use it in anything from soups and salads, to filling a kebab skewer full of other meats and vegetables. If you're truly adventurous and have a little sweet tooth, or are attempting to convince friends and family members that a little soy in life can be a good thing, check out this recipe for Vegan Chocolate Cake.

Different Business Ideas That Work

A lot of people want to be in business for themselves. It gives you a level of freedom that you generally don't get to enjoy if you are working for someone else. I mean, let's face it, if you are working for someone else you are lining their pockets with gold while you are eating dirt in most cases. Perhaps you want to go into business for yourself because it allows you a greater amount of freedom to decide when and where you are going to work and that gives you more time for the more important things in life like spending time with your family. But what are you going to do for a living so that you can make ends meet? Well if you are willing to live a simple life then you can get by on really working only about 20 hours a week more or less. I've done it for years. Here are some of the things that I've done to help pay the bills.

1. Start a cleaning business - Yes it might not be all that glamorous but it does pay well. I've done office cleaning and floors for grocery stores for years. The work is generally done at night so that is a consideration but it pays well and it gives you time to yourself while you are cleaning.

2. Work with apartment communities - Are you handy? If you are you can get some work helping out with the maintenance department at one of the local apartment communities. This pays well, depending on what you charge of course, and is a great way to earn some money. Generally you will have more work than what you can handle if you are good at what you do.

3. Wash some Windows - Window washing is enjoyable and profitable. If you land a few businesses with monthly accounts you can end up earning a fair amount of money. Try looking at some of the local car dealerships for work because they tend to have a lot of windows

Thanksgiving Favors

This Thanksgiving, why not send your guests home with a reminder of how wonderful the evening was? You can create your own personalized Thanksgiving favors or purchase them in a design that's uniquely yours.

For homemade favor ideas try the following:

  • Caramel apples: You can easily find a recipe online and then wrap the apples in cellophane and seal them with gold ribbon. On the outside of the cellophane, include the date written in gold marker.

  • Miniature pumpkins with guests' names painted in fall colors: These can be used as name cards for table seating, and then guests can bring them home with them.

  • Votive candles in fall scents: Pumpkin pie, apple cider, and cinnamon sticks are just a few of the scents available. You can put the candles in tiny glass vases that you've decorated for each guest. They can then replace the candles each season with their favorite colors and smells.

A number of websites also have favors available for purchase:

  • Wine bottle stoppers are made in a number of designs for your adult guests. Whether you choose an autumn leaf, turkey, or pumpkin, your guests can use these at their next holiday celebration.

  • Soap favors make a fabulous gift for guests of all ages. As with the candles, they come in a variety of fall scents and can also be ordered in fun shapes.

  • Chocolate lollipops are particularly popular with young guests. You can order them shaped as turkeys, pilgrim hats, cornucopias, and leaves, among others. They're a delicious and fun way to celebrate the holiday even after the meal is finished.

Birthday Party Games for Boys

Boys are rambunctious and like to play hard. Some favorite party games that we have found our boys like. You can modify the rules of the games if you want, just have lots of fun!

Water gun fights

This is like the classic cowboys and Indians game. Boys are split up into teams and armed with squirt guns. The object is to drench the opposing team. No hostages, just full on war. You may want to make sure that they bring extra clothes or only play this game on hot summer games. There are all sorts of water guns available, even the dollar stores have several shapes and sizes available.

Three Legged Race

With this game it is important the boys are close to the same size or one could drag and injure the other. Little boys may want to accompany an adult. Pair up the boys into teams of two. Tie the right leg to the left leg of your teams. The goal is to run together, as a unit, and finish the race first. You can make this interesting by making it an obstacle course or you can have a straightforward race from point A to point B.

War

The boys all have a gun and holster, or a sword and holster, and they play war. I encourage the children not to point their weapons at each other but to pretend to shoot at the feet of their victims and make them dance for you. Imagination usually takes control of the boys and they find a way of becoming super heroes, cowboys, bad guys, whatever their group seems to need and they act out what they can imagine.

Pirate

Boys can dress up in pirate costumes and reenact their favorite pirate movie. From treasure hunts to dueling the games are only limited by your imagination...or the imagination of the children.

Spoon race

It takes a spoon and either an orange, an apple, a tomato, a small ball, or an egg to play this game. The players all have a spoon held in their teeth and they pass the item from one another touching nothing with your hands. The item is supposed to make it to the end without falling but with younger children this may prove to be difficult.

A twist on this game is the players can place the item on the spoon then place their hands behind their backs and run to the finish line without dropping the item.

Cyberbullying

Cyberbullying

Cyberbullying, or bullying conducted online, has rapidly expanded in popularity and is even featured in popular TV shows and movies for teens and young adults. Most students today are experienced users of sophisticated communication devices like computers and cell phones, which greatly expands their social reach and allow them to communicate with other youth in a variety of ways, and at all hours of the day and night.

If your child is facing aggressive or harmful cyberbullying, the more you know about this new form of hostility, the more you can do to help put a stop to it.

What's unique about cyberbullying?

Cyberbullying is different from traditional face-to-face bullying in that the bully can use a variety of technologies, including:

  • Instant messaging

  • Chat rooms

  • Video hosting sites like YouTube

  • Email

  • Websites like Facebook, MySpace, and Twitter

  • Gaming sites

In addition to the new mediums used to orchestrate cyberbullying, the victims face new challenges as well. The following characteristics of cyberbullying have altered our view of traditional real-world bullying. These changes include:

  • The ability to prey upon the victim anywhere, anytime

  • The ability to reach a much wider audience

  • The anonymity of electronic communication

  • If you are worried that your child might be the victim of cyberbullying, look for:

  • Withdrawal from social interaction

  • Avoidance of communication devices

  • Anxiety when checking text messages or email

  • Declining grades

  • Change in sleeping or eating habits

Just because cyberbullying is new and different from traditional bullying does not mean that is should just be ignored and brushed under the rug.

720p Vs 1080i HDTV

Is 720p vs 1080i worth being concerned about? Yes and no. If you're a consumer looking for a new TV, you can happily ignore the 720p vs 1080i debate because every TV which is described as HDTV or HDTV Ready is required to support both formats.

NOTE: You should be aware though that lots of TVs which support 1080i have fewer than 1080 lines and so scale the 1080 signal down. That's not a huge issue as even scaled down 1080i is far ahead of a regular NTSC signal. It is worth bearing in mind that more expensive HDTVs tend to have better scalers than cheaper ones, and this may be an issue.

However, for broadcasters it's a live issue. Should they broadcast 1080 lines of interlaced video or 720 lines of progressive scan? They could just broadcast two signals, one in each format, but that would use up a huge chunk of bandwidth and be hugely expensive for very little gain.

To answer the question, it's important to understand the difference between 720p vs 1080i. A 720p signal is made up of 720 horizontal lines. Each frame is displayed in its entirety on-screen for 1/30th of a second. This is know as progressive scan (hence the 'p')The quality is like watching 30 photographic images a second on TV. A 1080i signal comprises 1080 horizontal lines but all the lines are not displayed on-screen simultaneously. Instead, they are interlaced (hence the 'i'), ie every other lines is displayed for 1/60th of a second and then the alternate lines are displayed for 1/60th of a second. So, the frame rate is still 30 frames per second, but each frame is split into two fields, which your brain then puts together subconsciously.

Most of the time interlacing works fine, but for fast moving images, such as sports like baseball and hockey it can cause problems which manifest themselves as a 'stepping' effect on-screen. Progressive scan signals don't have this problem and so are better suited to sports.

ESPN puts it like this: 'Progressive scan technology produces better images for the fast moving orientation of sports television. Simply put, with 104 mph fastballs in baseball and 120 mph shots on goal in hockey, the line-by-line basis of progressive scan technology better captures the inherent fast action of sports. For ESPN, progressive scan technology makes perfect sense.'

Bottom line? For us, as consumers 720p vs 1080i is not a debate worth worrying about, so you can relax and focus on all the other criteria on your list when you buy your next HDTV.

Proxy Hosting - Finding the Best Web Host for Proxies

Web proxies are becoming a hot topic amongst web masters as of late. They appear to be easy money and traffic but there are many considerations to be made before you seriously jump into the proxy hosting market. You should do your research if you are seriously considering joining the ranks of proxy web masters.

First off, proxy hosting starts with a web host. Most webhosting companies will NOT accept proxies. They are extremely resource intensive and can easily bring shared servers to a stand still if they get any decent amount of traffic. For anyone seriously considering hosting a proxy a VPS or dedicated server is a requirement. You need at least 256MB of ram on your server and 512 or above is highly recommended. Another thing to be careful of is control panels, cPanel, the most popular control panel amongst webmasters is very resource intensive and can use all 256mb of ram on a vps before your sites are even running. DirectAdmin and other lighter weight control panels are highly recommended to save resources for your users.

Disk space, proxies take minimal disk space. This should not be a huge concern in choosing a web host. A proxy acts as a relay of data, it plays a middle man of sorts between your users and the websites they wish to visit. This requires all websites use double the normal bandwidth of viewing a website. The first half of the data is your server requesting the website your user wishes to visit. The second half of the data is sending that website's data back to the user. Popular proxies can eat a lot of bandwidth, make sure you have plenty to spare.

This covers the two main aspects of proxy hosting, ram and bandwidth. A decent processor such as a Core2Duo, Xeon, Opterons are a huge plus but generally this will become an issue after ram and bandwidth.

What should you be looking for in a web host when choosing one? Price isn't everything. If you want to make money you better be prepared to spend some too. The $5 special on a shared server spells disaster if you plan on being successful. If a host lets you host proxies in a shared environment this might sound great and cheap but you have to wonder what else is running if they are going to allow you to use a lot of resources of the server. Only an irresponsible web host would let one user eat all the server resources, and you may not be the one using all those resources and then you will be very unhappy.

If you are going with a dedicated or vps solution as suggested you probably want good support response times in case something goes wrong. Depending on your skill level with servers, management may also be a good thing to have so you don't have keep your machine securely patched and running yourself. Uptime guarantees are also a nice thing to have, a server that is not online isn't making money.

Lastly, research what others have to say. If you think you found a good host check out reviews of the company, one or two bad reviews is common, but if there is a trend be careful. A good place to start is Proxy Host, a proxy web hosting directory and resource.

Host Your Own Server, Use a Hosting Company, or Colocation?

When hosting a website there are many different options. You can host your own server or host it with a web hosting company. There is also the option of colocation, where you have your own server but hire rack space at a data centre where it is hosted. This article looks at the advantages and disadvantages of hosting your own server, hosting through a hosting company, and colocation.

Hosting Your Own Server

The main advantage of hosting your own server is that you have control over your hosting. You make all the decisions regarding the server and operating systems used. Because you are in control you don't have to worry about any mistakes from a hosting company impacting your website. You also don't need to be concerned with any problems that might be caused by other websites sharing the server. All hosting resources, including bandwidth and disk space, are entirely dedicated to your server and your website.

While you are in control, you will also have to resolve any problems that arise. This could be a problem if you don't have the relevant expertise to deal with these issues. You will need to closely monitor your server if you are in charge of it to make sure you spot any issues quickly. Another disadvantage is that you will have to pay for any required software or hardware updates. Overall, hosting your own server can be expensive.

Hosting With a Hosting Company

One of the benefits of using a hosting company is that instead of you being in charge, the experts employed by the hosting company monitor and take care of your hosting. This is particularly advantageous to those without their own technical expertise. Because resources are being shared between all of the hosting company's customers, the cost is reduced. Professional web hosting companies regularly update their servers and infrastructure and, unlike when hosting your own site, this is factored into your hosting costs so it will not cost you extra.

The problems can come if you don't choose a good quality provide. If the hosting company makes mistakes, your website could suffer. The other downside is that other websites sharing a server with your site could potentially have a negative impact.

Colocation

Colocation goes somewhere in between the two options above. You have your own server but co-locate it at a data centre by hiring rack space. The positive is that you have some of the same control as with hosting your own server. You choose the server and can make decisions regarding it. Colocation is cheaper than hosting it yourself, though, as you are sharing the infrastructure costs with other customers. Although you are responsible for the maintenance of the server, you are not responsible for the maintenance of the infrastructure. Security is of a good standard and there are other benefits such as temperature control you may not have when hosting your own server.

Even though you have a significant amount of control, you don't have as much as with hosting it yourself. Another disadvantage is that the colocation centre's resources are shared between customers so there will be some limits. In the majority of cases colocation is more expensive than hosting with a hosting company.

Benefits of Hosting World Cup Soccer

The FIFA World Cup is an amazing international event held every four years. Fans from all over the world descend on the host country bringing with them an outpouring of color, passion, energy, and culture. The world game is a wonderful accolade to the country that plays host plus the event holds much promise to global broadcast, tourism, and injection of millions of dollars into the economy.

FIFA the international governing body for soccer (football) requires the host nation to comply with detailed regulations and specifications including security, transport, accommodation, training facilities, opening and closing ceremonies, marketing, promotions, ticketing, insurance, and other administrative matters.

Are there financial risks worth hosting such an event? Infrastructure issues (like airports, roads, stadiums, and public transport) for hosting such an event are usually among the major complications. When Athens hosted the Olympic Games in 2004, its budget went from US$1.6 billion to US$16 billion: Beijing in 2008 went from US$1.6 billion to around US$40 billion. London's price tag for the 2012 games has blown out from US$5 billion to around US$20 billion. So far, South Africa is estimated to have spent US$5 billion and FIFA US$1.1 billion on preparations before the kick-off of the 2010 World Cup.

Potentially millions of dollars from tourists are injected into small businesses, hotels, restaurants, souvenir shops, tours, and transport from hosting the FIFA tournament. However, the costs associated with a significant influx of visitors is the provision of security to fans and all the teams, counter-terrorist activities, policing racial sensitivities, and purchase and installation of high-tech monitoring equipment.

The revenue from the sale of tickets to the games if not achieved would back fire on the host country as it may take years to recover the outlay for hosting such a global event. History will determine the success of hosting the FIFA tournament. The global exposure of this world event may benefit the host country and its local suppliers/industries in years to come.

The study of a US economist on the historical experience of host nations since 1954 revealed that in 7 of the 13 tournaments since 1954, economic growth has been slower in the World Cup year than in the two years leading up to the event. On the other hand, 9 of the 13 host nations since 1954 has shown faster economic growth in the 2 years following the event.

What the FIFA World Cup does is that it brings the world together through competition fostering cross-cultural interaction and international understanding. In a world plagued by wars, racism, and religious intolerance, the FIFA World Cup contributes to universal brotherhood, whose benefits to humanity is impossible to quantify.

Around 6 billion people watch the Olympics but this is pale in comparison to the 26 billion who is estimated to watch the FIFA World Cup.

South Africa is hosting the 2010 FIFA World Cup in June to July. The next FIFA World Cup will be held in June to July 2014 in Brazil, a nation who was crowned the world champions in 1958, 1962, 1970, 1994, and 2002.

Planning Golf Events - 4 Amazing Golf Tournament Themes

When you are planning on hosting a golf event, there are a few issues you should keep in mind. Never forget the nature of audience for instance. Here are a few more tips to help you with your planning:

- What kind of people will you be inviting to participate in the event?
- What do you hope to achieve by holding this event?
- During which month are you planning on the tournament?
- What is the number of participants that you expect?

Any tournament is so much more fun to be a part of when it has a theme attached to it. With a golf tournament you should have a theme that keeps the love of golf in mind. Think of a creative theme that would fir within the boundaries of golf in some way. Think of various golf terms and connect them with other English words to help you decide on a suitable theme. However you choose to arrive at the theme, just make sure it has something to do with the game of golf.

At many tournaments people hand out mementos that are in line with their theme. That makes it even more important to have the appropriate theme, since people would remember it for some time to come, thanks to these gifts. Here are a few ideas to get you started on creating the right theme, which would help you organize other categories of the event as well:

1. The Tee theme, for instance, is a common theme that people use when hosting golf events, and your gifts and mementos could involve watches and other golf accessories. It is a theme which could often be used for tournaments concerning female players of all levels. The ladies just love being served with fresh cups of tea during the event, especially if the play is during the winter months..

2. The Diamonds in the rough is a popular theme for beginners golf events. The concept of the theme is to help the new players look within them selves to uncover the hidden golf pro inside. And who doesn't like being told there is an expert within?

3. Golfing Guardian Angels - this is a great theme for an event which you are hosting for reasons of donation to charity. Many times organizers make wings for people to wear during the tournaments, and they also make teams for every sponsorship option.

4. When you want a fun theme, Las Vegas is a great idea; it always gets people in the mood to party. You could involve a little Las Vegas feel into the tournaments by holding a lottery on the side, and sponsoring the winner with a trip to Vegas itself.

These are only a few ideas; don't be hesitant to make your own golf themes.

Excitingly Fun And Creative Charity Fund Raising Ideas

Fund raisers can be a lot of work. They can be a lot of fun with the proper planning and in the end they can be very rewarding. Charity fund raising ideas are usually created to help someone or group in need. There are many things that can be done to raise money and they can be extremely fun and filled with a lot of laughs. The planning stages of a fund raiser are very important because it's all about organization and delegation. Many people try to take on a big project by themselves and it is killer to do it that way. I'm not saying it can't be done, I am saying it doesn't have to be all work if you include others in the planning. This article will give some tips on charity fund raising ideas and hopefully some excitingly fun ways to raise money for charity.

Charity fund raising ideas first begin inside someone's heart. The person who will be organizing the fund raising first has a burden for the person or group they are going to raise the money for. In many cases, money is raised for a transplant or operation or illness. It can also be a loss of a home due to a fire or some other freak of nature event.
Once the thought of raising money for the person has begun, then the work begins. You need to incorporate others to come on board and catch the burden because the burden is what is going to keep you going. Charity fund raising ideas will be worth the effort in the end, but up to the end it can be very challenging and you will need help and support.

Many charity fund raising ideas begin with getting a celebrity of some type to either be the star performance or just the spokesperson. It doesn't have to be a movie star, it can be a town leader or sheriff of some type. You can do an American idol contest, or just host a dress up event in which the people coming pay for a nice dinner with a little entertainment, or you can have a performer of some type put on some type of show that people come and watch. For other charity fund raising ideas, you could host a ball room dance of some type in which everyone gets to dress up again. People love to dress up for special events. You can also raffle off items and give door prizes away.

Charity fund raising ideas can be an auction of some type or a huge garage sale in which all the items have been donated. These types of things will require a lot of work and organization, but there is money to be made during these events. There are other charity fund raising ideas such as hosting a dinner of some type and having a best men's legs contest in which no one sees who the man is, or throwing a ball at the bulls eye in which a celebrity is sitting in a dunk tank. There are just so many different charity fund raising ideas that can be done, but remember again do not do something like this all by yourself. I believe that when you do something for charity, you don't have to get all the credit. Remember who the fund raising is for. That is the host of the show. In many cases good charity fund raising ideas will get free publicity. If you are well organized and you believe in what you are doing, then you can get your local television and radio and newspaper to come on board and help you out with the advertising.

Music Ecards

In the past, the most special card we could send and receive was a music card. We savored the moment when we would open that distinctive card with the Happy Birthday song playing or that Christmas card playing Silent Night, Jingle Bells, Winter Wonderland and so on.

Fast forward to the present with all the high technology and the Internet - now we have so many kinds of music Ecards available online. What's more, the music Ecards don't just play the usual birthday song and common Christmas jingles anymore. They also carry music like love songs, rock and roll, dance, pop, rap, the blues, country, jazz, reggae and folk.

The music birthday card plays the birthday song in different tempos, depending on the content of the card (slower rhythm for serious cards and faster for funny ones). A music E-card will truly add to the jubilation of the birthday celebrant. Music E-cards about love play sentimental songs couples will truly appreciate. Not just for the mushy ones, music E-cards also play rock and roll tunes. These are typically chosen by the young personalities to send to their friends.

Whether you are really into actual rock and roll music or not, the beat will definitely up your tempo and brighten up your day. The same goes for music E-cards playing dance tunes and rap songs. Music E-cards playing pop songs are selected by young individuals as well. The contemporary music, whether mellow or fast, will please the recipient especially if the song and artist/ band are his favorites at the moment. Songs made popular by boy bands, Christina Aguilera, Madonna, and other popular musicians are available. Interestingly, there are also music E-cards that play the blues, country songs and jazz. It is enjoyable to receive these especially if you are into that kind of music. Music E-cards that play reggae music are relaxing, reminiscent of the beach and its laid-back ambiance. Music E-cards that play folk music are ideal during celebrations of local events.

How To Win The Lottery - 5 Tips

The majority of our lives are spent behind a counter, in an office, at the beck and call of customers, managers, and the almighty alarm clock. We struggle and fight to reach an age where we no longer have to be burdened by the enormous weight of financial obligation. It is a disheartening way to live.

Sometimes it feels the only way to break free from the cruel chains of fate is to take a chance. With one ticket, one golden lottery ticket, you can go from down on your luck to winning it all. You can finally live the life you intended, your choices no longer limited by the size of your bank account. Dine on the best food. Travel to the most exotic locations. Play. Live.

But winning the lottery is pure luck, right? Wrong. Of course there is always some luck involved but there are things you can do to improve your odds dramatically. Here are 5 tips to get you started.

1) Don't play 7 ball games if you want to win frequently. Play games with a lower number of balls. Play 5 ball games, then 6 ball games if you have no other choice. Your odds of winning increase with the lower ball games.

2) Don't play the lottery games with the highest amount of numbers. The lower the amount of numbers in your game, the better your odds. If you have a choice between two games containing, for example, 35 numbers or 60 - go for the lower number!

3) Do not play lottery games that use computer generated numbers. Make sure they are real balls - ping pong balls are most common - in a washer barrel machine.

4) Don't rely on the lottery shop's quick pick numbers. Using your own numbers and a good lottery system will eliminate the least effective number combinations and improve your chances of winning.

5) Play more tickets and focus your lottery strategy. Concentrate on one lottery game and buy as many tickets as you can. The more tickets you buy, the greater your odds of winning.

Do not stop there if you're serious because there is a lot more you can do. Next, you'll want to use a proven lottery system to discover how you can win 8 out of every 10 games. Have you heard of those people that win the lottery more than once? Think they just got lucky more than once? Nope. There's no reason to leave your financial future up to pure chance.

BEFORE You Win the Lottery - 10 Things to Do

In your heart, you know you are going to win a lotto jackpot eventually. Or else why do you buy lottery tickets? Here is some advice for your head and heart while you get ready to win.

1) Don't make promises you do not intend to keep. It is easy to tell someone: "If I won the lottery, I would pay off your mortgage" or "When I win the lottery, I will buy you a new car" Such statements, even meant as sympathy for another's plight, can come back to haunt you. You may forget you said it. Yet when you do win the lottery, that person to whom you uttered your promise will remember vividly and expect to collect their "due" And if you pay off the mortgage or buy that car, it will not mean as much if it had not been "expected" or "promised"

2) Don't trust anyone to hold your lottery tickets before the drawing. When large sums of money are involved, it is surprising how a long-standing friendship or family tie can become meaningless. Be forewarned: Buy your own lottery tickets -- or at least have them in your own safekeeping before the drawing takes place. As an extra precaution, sign the back of your winning lottery tickets immediately. After the drawing, possession is 99 percent of the law.

3) Stick to a budget. Don't play with money you are afraid to lose. Scared money seldom wins. Keep it fun so that your attitude remains positive. Enjoy it with others by pooling your money with friends, family or co-workers. Not only is it more enjoyable playing with others, but it also stretches your lotto budget. When you pool your money with others, you can afford to use the larger lotto wheels.

4) Have your lotto pool sign a Pooling Agreement. Pooling your money with others to share in more lottery tickets is a great idea, but do not pool your money with anyone without a signed agreement. You may think you are risking only a few dollars. But if the lottery ticket wins, you have put at risk potential millions.

5) Don't be afraid to skip a drawing. To further stretch your lotto dollar, play a large wheeling system once a month and skip the other drawings in between. Or use the money you might have spent (but didn't) on some other form of entertainment. If you have a multiple prize win, you can afford to spend more on lottery tickets next time, such as playing two or more lotto wheels. You may be on a hot streak. When you don't win, stay on a self-imposed budget until you win again. But keep in mind, there is one thing all lottery jackpot winners have in common: They all bought a lottery ticket!

6) Keep your lottery tickets safe. Keep your lottery tickets in a safe place and check them immediately after the drawing. Collect your small prizes (under $600) right away before the expiration date. Most states give you only 30 days to claim small wins from lottery agents. After that, you must mail them in or visit a claim center.

7) Save your losing lottery tickets. Save all of your losing lottery tickets because they are tax deductible, dollar for dollar, against your lottery wins. Receipts for other gambling losses can also be deducted against lottery wins. When you win even a second prize, you will be glad to have those deductions at tax time.

8) Play some low-odds games. If you want to start winning sooner rather than later, invest the greater portion of your lottery budget on the cash-5 game offered in your state. You will win more prizes more often when you play the lower odds pick-5 games. Top prize might be only a hundred thousand dollars or so. Nevertheless, I guarantee that when you win one, you will be very, very happy!

9) Trust your hunches. Although my strategies are scientific, based on mathematical probability, I am a great believer in playing hunches, too. If you feel strongly about a certain number, play it. Your inner conscious mind becomes stronger and more accurate as you use it. Even your hunch muscle has to be exercised to work efficiently. It is very important to think of yourself as a lucky person -- to think of yourself as a winner.

10) Practice saying, "No," before you win the lottery. The most important word any jackpot winner can learn to say is an emphatic "No!" Many jackpot winners have gone bankrupt because they allowed freeloading friends, relatives, neighbors, and others to bleed them dry. If you think you don't have the backbone to harden your heart against endless sad tales of need and greed, then do not accept your lottery win in a lump sum. Opt for the annuity payout and collect your lottery win in annual installments.
